Drawbar pull is an important number when assessing the potential load on a recovery system.
The chart below provides estimated drawbar pull figures for selected Caterpillar dozers and mining haul trucks.
These figures are provided as a reference point, not as a guarantee of the force a machine will produce during every recovery.
Actual drawbar pull can vary depending on machine configuration, operating conditions, terrain, traction and other factors.

Why Tractor Drawbar Pull Matters
Notice that drawbar pull does not necessarily correspond directly to machine weight.
For example, the 8400 weighs 19,000 lbs but has an estimated drawbar pull of 29,200 lbs.
That is why simply looking at the weight of the recovery vehicle can give you the wrong picture of the potential force involved.
When assessing a recovery, consider both the estimated force required to free the stuck machine and the maximum pulling force the recovery tractor may be capable of generating.
Where possible, use the manufacturer's specification for the exact tractor configuration rather than relying solely on a general model figure.
