Tow Strap Inspection Procedures

Inspection Requirements

No tools required. Lay the strap flat or suspend it. Ensure good lighting.

Quick Check (Before Every Use)

  • Run your hand along the full length

  • Check both eye loops

  • Look for cuts, stiffness, or damage

Do Not Use If:

  • Cuts or tears in the webbing

  • Frayed or damaged eye loops

  • Broken, loose, or missing stitching

  • Melted, hardened, or stiff areas

  • Chemical stains or burns

  • Knots or any previous repairs

What to Look For

  • Surface damage: cuts, nicks, fraying, glazing

  • Edge wear: rough or sharp edges

  • Internal damage: hard lumps or soft spots

  • Discoloration: fading (UV) or dark stains (chemicals)

Material Condition

The strap should remain flexible.
Stiffness, brittleness, or unusual odor = material degradation.

Storage

Store dry, out of sunlight, away from chemicals and sharp edges.

Summary

If there is any visible damage or change in material condition, remove the strap from service immediately. Failure under load is sudden and uncontrolled.
